Live music, dancing, spirits and fun…all for the opportunity to positively impact thousands of Wiregrass resident.!The 2nd annual Summer White Dress Party will be held Saturday night, July 29, at Alexander’s in the Clock Tower on Honeysuckle.
The Summer White Dress Party was created last year to be a summer complement to the Holiday Red Dress Party that began 10 years ago as a way for friends to gather together and celebrate the holiday season.
“Bill Mathis started the Red Dress Party in his home 10 years ago,” said current party chair Sonya Seay Philippona. “Three years ago the party had grown too large for a private home, so a venue was rented, tickets were sold and it became a charity event.”
Sonya began hosting the Red Dress Party two years ago, and the event has been the go-to holiday party for many residents of the Wiregrass. The idea of celebrating the season for a good cause has caught on, and many residents look forward to the party each year.
“After hosting my first Red Dress Party, a friend of mine suggested that I host a summer party as well, and so the White Dress Party was born last year,” said Sonya.
Since the Holiday Red Dress Party became a charity event three years ago and the Summer White Dress party added last year, the events have raised over $6000 for eight different local nonprofit organizations.
With the Summer White Dress Party being such a huge success last year, Sonya and friends determined that the party would become another annual fundraiser.
Proceeds from this year’s Summer White Dress Party will go to The House of Ruth, Wiregrass Area Children’s Home and the Wiregrass Humane Society.
“I place three jars at the entrance of the party for party goers to drop their tickets in and thus ‘cast their votes’ for one of the three charities,” said Sonya. “When all the event expenses are paid, the remaining dollars are divided by the number of votes and presented to each of the three charities.”
The required attire for the White Dress Party is, obviously, a white dress for ladies. Gentlemen may wear white or black to keep the theme.
Alexander’s Private Party Facility in the Clock Tower provides elegant décor, heavy hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. Cocktails, wine and beer will be available.
Motown sensation band “Legacy”’ will provide the live music for party goes to enjoy the atmosphere as well as to dance along on the dance floor.
Sonya said that the event is not only fun but incredibly rewarding because of the potential impact it has on local nonprofits.
“I enjoy the party planning,” said Sonya. “It is gratifying to see it all come together and realize that all of the planning was worthwhile. People are having a good time, enjoying a beautiful setting with good food and friends. Then the profits are distributed. That’s even more gratifying! I have started to deliver the checks in person so that I really get to know something about the people that we are helping and the local people that really make it happen on a daily basis.”
